Mile High Invitational

This past weekend was our first tournament of the season, The Mile High Invitational. Both Coach Natalie and I had a lot of fun coaching the girls and watching our team compete.

We started out Thursday night with 2 wins at Golden HS. We played PSB and the Lady Blackhawks. Both were great games to test where we are as a team. We had prepped for a little zone but with only having 4 practices before we were a little rusty. Once we got the hang of using our defense to fuel our offense before the zone was set, we were able to start clicking.

Our other 3 games were on Saturday. Our first game was canceled due to a forfeit so we played B&B in the semi finals. In this game, there was a lot of back and forth but we maintained our lead the entire time. Some things were learned was the ability to defend the 3 and fight through middle on ball screens. We can definitely improve on both of these skills but it was great to see our girls be able to adjust in the game. Immediately following the win, we played Hardwood in the Championship.

This game tested our mental toughness of having to play back to back. The full court press and pace of the game was something we needed to adjust to in order to stick in the game. We were down 9 at halftime and came out cold. We are going to continue to improve our fundamental skills and work as a team to get better.

Overall, it was a great start to the club season. This team is special and we are excited to see where we go from here.
